I need community service hours for school. Can I get them by helping the library?
Absolutely! The Tulsa City-County Library is always looking for both long-term and short-term volunteers, including high school and college students who need to complete “service learning” hours for classes. From shelving books at your local library to instructing an Internet training session, volunteering at the library strengthens the community.
To become a volunteer at the library, first go to the About Us tab at the top of the home page and click on our Volunteer link in the bottom left corner. Then complete a volunteer application and send it to:

Are you registered to vote? Find registration forms and a calendar of deadlines through our TOS database.
The library’s Tulsa Organizations and Services database (or TOS) has hundreds of listings for local clubs, nonprofits, churches, professional groups, government agencies, etc. You can find this database on our website by clicking the Research tab on the library homepage.
To locate voter information, select the Name of Organization search and type ‘voter registration’ or ‘election board’ into the search field (either of them will take you to the same result) and click search. Near the top of the TOS page for the Tulsa County Election Board, there are links for both the voter registration form and the Election Board’s website, where you can find calendars for upcoming elections, including registration deadlines for each. The voter form will need to be printed off in order to be filled.
I just finished reading 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy and now want to read more of his stuff. Where can I find titles and reviews of his other books?
Select the Books and Reading tab at the top of the library’s homepage. In the list of categories, look in the left hand column and click on the NoveList icon.
NoveList has a keyword search field on its main page, so you can conduct a search for Cormac McCarthy using that. This will give you the list of all the NoveList entries by the author, and will also include entries in which McCarthy’s name is mentioned (as is the case with ‘Gabriel’s Story’ by David Anthony Durham, which mentions McCarthy’s border trilogy as an influence).
If you want to narrow the list down to works by McCarthy, you can do so with the advanced search option at the top of the page. This feature allows you to limit your search not only by author, but by title, publication year, series, and many other fields.
When you find a book that interests you, click on the title for more information. This will provide more information about that particular book, and may include a plot summary, reviews, subject headings, awards, and book discussion questions (although the amount of information provided varies depending on the title).
I am looking for series books for my students, is there a special way to find them in the library catalog?
To find book series for children, click on the Kids Library League link on the left hand side of the library home page and click on the woman in the red dress holding a computer. This will lead you to the catalog. Select the “series icon” to go to an alphabetical index of children’s series books. The books are listed by the series title.
U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps just broke the record for the number of Olympic gold medal wins. Where can I find out more about his history?
TCCL has a great tool for looking up biographical information on celebrities and historical figures called the Biography Resource Center. To find it on our site, go to the Research tab, select Find Articles & Databases, click on Alphabetical List of Databases, and you’ll find it under the Bs. Incredibly user-friendly, the Biography Resource Center allows multiple ways to search., including name, biographical facts, category, and an advanced search. If you search “Michael Phelps” in the name search, you will find there is an biophysicist by that name as well as the swimmer. When you select the athlete’s page, you’ll also find tabs at the top leading you to magazine and newspaper articles, as well as his official website.
