I want to buy my spouse a digital camera for Christmas, but don't know much about them. Where can I find information on different models?

Permalink 12/03/08 16:33 , Categories: Database , Tags: christmas gifts, consumer reports, digital cameras

Consumer Reports offers information on product performance ratings and advice on how to determine which model is best for you. You can search and read Consumer Reports articles on our website. From our catalog perform a title search for Consumer Reports Online. Follow the link to a selection of databases. Any of these will lead you to the interface for Consumer Reports but MasterFILE is the easiest to use.

Once you are on the EBSCO Consumer Reports page, you can browse by year and volume, or click Search within this publication to search for a specific topic.

For this search, go to Search within this publication and add your search words, ‘digital cameras’, in the space directly under the JN “Consumer Reports” field. This will search for the keywords within all back issues. You will find that the December 2008 issue ran a cover story specifically on digital cameras. Click on the article title to display options to read, print, e-mail, or save the article.

Michael Chabon has been selected as the 2008 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award Winner by the Tulsa Library Trust. Where can I learn more about him and his work?

You can learn more about Michael Chabon and his career through the Biography Resource Center database. First click on the Research tab at the top of the library home page, then select Find Articles and Databases. Select Alphabetical List of All Databases and scroll down and click the Biography Resource Center. Perform a search for the name Chabon, and you should receive 3 entries about the author.

To find out more about his novels, try Novelist, which provides book summaries, reviews, read-alike lists and even book discussion group guides. Novelist can be found under the Books and Reading tab of the library page. You can perform searches by author or title.

For a discussion of Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and how it relates to the world of pop culture, be sure to attend our Novel Talk program on Tuesday November 18th, 6:30pm at the Central Library.

And of course don’t forget that Michael Chabon himself will be joining us in December to accept his award. For information on his visit, check out the Helmerich Award website.
