There’s a book I want to read, but I’m not ready to check it out or put it on hold. Can I make a wish list of things I want to read later?

Permalink 01/06/10 09:23 , Categories: Library Web Site , Tags: catalog, my account, wish list

YES! You can now make wish lists in your library account with the new My Lists feature. To start making lists, check out the Save to My Lists Catalog Help page and the My Account Help page on how to access your lists.

TIP: Always log in to your account before searching the catalog & making lists so that you only have to enter your information once.

My Lists FAQ:

· How many lists can I create?
You may create more than one list. Each list can be given a title and description.

· How many titles can I add to my list?
You may add as many titles as you wish to each list.

· Can I remove titles from my lists?
Titles may be removed from your lists at any time, and entire lists can be deleted at once.

· Will anyone else have access to my lists?
Your lists can only be viewed by logging in to your account via the web catalog. Library staff will not have access to your lists via your circulation account.

I have tried to sign up for a Grant Seeking Basics class but the classes are always full. Is there another way I can get information about finding grants?

You can learn more about finding grants be visiting the Additional Resources page of the TCCL Foundation Center in the Research tab. Geraldine Brooks has been selected as the 2009 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award Winner by the Tulsa Library Trust. Where can I learn more about her and her work?

You can learn more about Geraldine Brooks and her career through the Biography Resource Center database. First click on the Research tab at the top of the library home page, then select Find Articles and Databases. Select Alphabetical List of All Databases and scroll down and click the Biography Resource Center. Perform a search for the name Brooks, Geraldine and you should receive 3 entries, two of which are for the author (indicated by her birth date of 1955).

To find out more about her novels, try Novelist, which provides book summaries, reviews, book discussion group guides. You can also read the first chapters of her books Year of Wonders and March. Novelist can be found under the Books and Reading tab of the library page. You can perform searches by author or title.

And of course don’t forget that Geraldine Brooks herself will be joining us in December to accept her award. For information on her visit, check out the Helmerich Award website.

I do a lot of social networking online. Does the library have any sources of information about online privacy?

Permalink 11/13/09 11:09 , Categories: Database , Tags: cq researcher, current events, database, online privacy

The library offers access to a database called CQ Researcher that provides in depth research and analysis on many current issues and events. This database is available at all libraries and can be accessed from home using your library card.

To access this database, click on the Research tab at the top of the library’s home page, then click Find Articles and Databases, then select the link for Alphabetical list of all databases. CQ Researcher is located at the end of the ‘C’ listings.

Once you are logged onto the database, you should see a column on the right hand labeled Recent Reports. You will notice that there was an article posted on Nov. 6th regarding online privacy. Other recent articles focus on such topics as human rights, space exploration, and the military.
