Genealogy Center now has access to largest genealogy collection in the world

Tulsa City-County Library’s Genealogy Center now has access to the largest genealogy collection in the world – the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Genealogical Society of Utah’s Research and Library System has designated TCCL’s Genealogy Center as an official FamilySearch Center, which enables the Genealogy Center to borrow microfilm and microfiche from the Family History Center.

Founded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Family History Center contains more than 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records and 742,000 microfiche.

Tulsa City-County Library customers researching their roots may borrow microfilm/fiche from the Family History Center by requesting the resources through the Genealogy Center. There is a $5.50 charge to cover postage. The microfilm/fiche will stay at the Genealogy Center for one month for the requesting customer to use during regular library hours.

The Genealogy Center is located at 2901 S. Harvard, and is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 1 to 8 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“With access to the Family History Center plus the supplementary materials available in our own collection, we now can provide our customers with most everything they need to research their family’s roots,” said Kathy Huber, managing librarian of the Genealogy Center. “If we don’t have all the resources you need to complete your family tree, we have experts on staff that can direct you to the right place, tell you what is available and how to get it.”

TCCL’s Genealogy Center has one of the largest genealogical collections in Oklahoma. The collection focuses on Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma, but includes information on most of the states in the United States with a larger coverage of states where families who migrated to Oklahoma came from, including Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia.

The Genealogy Center also has online subscriptions to Ancestry Library Edition, Heritage Quest, Footnote.com and New England Ancestors.
