“Chapters” Fundraiser to Benefit Library’s Literacy Service
Spend an enjoyable evening after hours in the library with three favorite authors while helping raise money and awareness for Tulsa City-County Library’s Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service.
In conjunction with National Literacy Awareness Month, Tulsa City-County Library and the Tulsa Library Trust are offering “Chapters: A Casual Evening of Books, Bards and Bites” on Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. Tickets are $40 per person. Deadline to purchase tickets is Sept. 4.
Attendees will get to enjoy food and wine from some of the area’s favorite restaurants while listening to authors Tim Tingle, Jeff Martin and Teresa Miller.
A sought-after Choctaw storyteller and popular speaker, Tingle is an award-winning author of Native American fiction and folklore. His works include “Walking the Choctaw Road,” “Crossing Bok Chitto,” “Spirits Dark and Light” and “Fifty Texas Ghost Stories.” His latest title, “When Turtle Grew Feathers,” is his first early childhood read-aloud book.
Martin is the editor of “The Customer Is Always Wrong: The Retail Chronicles,” which was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. In this collection of true-life tales, Martin has gathered together writers and humorists of all stripes to offer a gold mine of cringe-inducing stories about life in the retail world. Martin also is the author of the upcoming “My Dog Ate My Nobel Prize: The Fabricated Memoirs of Jeff Martin,” which will be released this fall.
Miller is the executive director for the Oklahoma Center for Poets and Writers, executive producer and host of the public television program “Writing Out Loud,” and an acclaimed author. Her works include the novels “Remnants of Glory” and “Family Correspondence,” and her latest book “Means of Transit,” which she calls “a slightly embellished memoir.” She currently is working on a sequel to “Family Correspondence.”
