Meet Jim Arnosky
Meet Jim Arnosky
Jim Arnosky makes a living from shooting a variety of animals and insects. It is what he loves – hiking in nature with his sketch pad and video recorder, documenting every detail of his latest hunt.
Arnosky, an award-winning artist and bestselling author, will share his self-taught skill with library customers and sign copies of his books when he visits Connor’s Cove at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., Friday at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
He is the featured illustrator for Books to Treasure, an annual event promoting the beauty of children’s literature and introducing the community to popular book illustrators. Books to Treasure is sponsored by the Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, with special thanks to the Tulsa World. The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation is providing one free copy of Arnosky’s “Raccoon on His Own,” to every second-grader in Tulsa County.
Having written or illustrated more than 100 books, Arnosky has honed his skill of capturing life’s details and captivating naturalists of all ages. Arnosky is self taught in writing, art and natural sciences. He observes nature by getting on his hands and knees, and understanding the world from an animal’s perspective.
Books like “Filed Trips: Bug Hunting, Animal Tracking, Bird Watching, Shore Walking,” and “Secrets of a Wildlife Watcher” encourage children and families to explore their surroundings. Each book is a basic “how-to” guide filled with illustrations and stories on what to look for on a nature walk, what to collect, and how to document your findings.
For more information on Books to Treasure, call Central Library’s Children’s Department at 596-7971 or visit the library’s Web site, www.tulsalibrary.org.
