Tulsa City-County Library is offering a free series, “So You Want to Go to College,” to help parents and students learn about the many resources available to help plan for and fund a college education.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, American Indian middle and high school students and their parents are invited to a college fair from 10 a.m. to noon at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue, 596-7977. Meet with representatives from area colleges and universities, get information about financial aid, and learn about library resources on colleges and funding. Bring student and parent 2007 W-9 forms to use the FAFSA 4caster. Also, Shonday Harmon, coordinator, Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, OSU-Tulsa, and Owen Hawzipta, Owasso Public Schools, will dispel the myth that American Indian students are entitled to a free college education. They will share information on college preparation, understanding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application, and how to locate financial aid and scholarships.

The series continues with “College Financial Aid: Fund Your Future” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 at Central Library. In addition to Harmon, speakers include Brady Pringle, investment specialist, A.G. Edwards; Brad Burnham, college and career counselor, Union High School; and Ellen Cummings, managing librarian, Research Center, Tulsa City-County Library.

Additional programs in the series are “FAFSA Workshop for American Indian Students,” 10-11:30 a.m., Nov. 8, Maxwell Park Library, 1313 N. Canton, 669-6055; “Gates Millennium Scholars Program for American Indian Students,” 10 a.m.-noon, Nov. 15, Maxwell Park Library; and “Third Annual Latino College Fair,” with presentations in Spanish, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Nov. 18, Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, 669-6340.

The Tulsa Library Trust, Tulsa City-County Library Research Center, American Indian Resource Center, Hispanic Resource Center, Charles W. and Pauline K. Flint Foundation, YWCA Multicultural Service Center, Paseo de la Salud and GearUp are sponsoring the series.
