Job opportunities
I attended a job fair yesterday, representing the Library and touting all of our amazing services and collections available for job seekers. Through the course of the day, I realized that the resource guides I was handing out mentioned nothing of government opportunities, though there were several government agencies in attendance recruiting. To fill the gap, and offer information about what employment opportunities are available in government – city, county, or federal – here is a list of helpful sites.
- City of Tulsa Jobs – the City is currently in the midst of a hiring freeze
- Tulsa County Jobs
- State of Oklahoma Jobs
- Job seeker resources available at OK.gov
- USAJobs.gov – search for job opportunities with the federal government
Swine flu
There is much concern over the recent outbreak of swine flu; so much so that the acting Secretary of Health & Human Services, Charles Johnson, has determined that a public health emergency exists.
I refuse to think nihilistic thoughts but do want to be aware of the possible dangers and ways to keep my family safe. Here are a few sites to provide general information, current statistics and ways to protect yourself and your family.
- Swine Flu – up to the minute information from the Centers for Disease Control
- Swine Flu & You
- Preventing the Flu (CDC)
- Information from the Oklahoma State Dept. of Health
- Global Perspectives in Context

Oklahoma Long Range Transportation Plan
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation recently launched the
website (www.oklongrangeplan.com). Though still in the development phase, this website will provide Oklahoma residents (or visitors) easy, current access to information regarding the future of Oklahoma’s transportation infrastructure.
As information comes available, the Oklahoma Long Range Transportation Plan website will offer maps, timelines, news. The project is also encouraging future citizen involvement through comments, public meetings, surveys, and advisory groups.
Transparency in government is sweeping the nation and public involvement is encouraged… the joys of living in a democracy.
Tulsa municipal warrant amnesty
From May 1 to May 22, those who have old
Tulsa municipal warrants can have them resolved without having to be arrested
or put in jail because of the warrant. The city also will waive all
late fees and court costs related to the warrants.
Three kinds of outstanding warrants can
be resolved during the amnesty period – a failure to appear warrant
with a preset fine, a failure to appear warrant on a book-to-court
citation or arrest case and a failure to pay warrant.
