Making Meetings Meaningful

The first workshop of the 2009 "No Nonsense Nonprofit" series will examine meeting procedure of nonprofit boards under Robert’s Rules of Order. You will learn about issues such as common misuse of parliamentary procedure, tips for presiding at a board meeting, and how to tailor the order of business to your needs. Important questions will be answered including how the conduct of business differs in small boards vs. large boards, when to use other parliamentary authorities, and what belongs in the minutes.The workshop will be given by Janet Wilson, M.D. Dr. Wilson is a Professional Registered Parliamentarian (PRP) with the National Association of Parliamentarians and a Certified Parliamentarian-Parliamentary Teacher (CP-T) with the American Institute of Parliamentarians.

Financial Statements for Non-financial People

The second workshop of our 2009 "No Nonsense Nonprofit" series will help you make sense out of financial statements. You will learn about the basic account types and what they mean, common accounting terminology, the difference between debits and credits, P&L, balance sheets, and simple tools to analyze your nonprofit’s financial health. This workshop is for staff, board members, volunteers, and anyone involved in finances or financial planning for nonprofit and public service organizations. The speaker for this workshop will be Walter Kruse, Business Development Specialist, Central Technology Center.Registration is required and class size is limited

Grant *Writing* Workshops in Your Community
The Foundation Center at TCCL provides workshops on grant seeking (next class, Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 9:30 -11:30 a.m.), which often leads to questions about grant writing.
Though we don’t have any grant writing workshops planned at this time, there are other organizations in our community that offer such classes. Following are a few upcoming opportunities. These are not presented in partnership with the Tulsa City County Library (therefore, please view this post as information, not an endorsement).
Grantwriting I - Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits
Date: Thursday, February 12
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Location: OSU-Tulsa, 700 N. Greenwood Ave.
Registration Fee: $60.00
The basic elements of grantwriting and guideposts to guide you each step of the way in the process. This is a two part series. You will be asked to bring a grant proposal to session II to analyze and critique. This session is for beginners.

Grantwriting II - Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits

Registration Fee: $60.00
This workshop will help you strengthen your grantwriting skills. Bring your own grant proposal to analyze. Specific points include: using buzz words, formatting your proposal, tailoring your case and capturing your audience. This session is more advanced and is a continuation from Grantwriting I.

Grant Seeking for Beginners
Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 9:30 -11:30 a.m.
This workshop provides nonprofit managers, employees, and volunteers with the basic knowledge needed to seek out grant funds. You will learn about the Foundation Center and the TCCL Cooperating Collection, learn the basics of the grant seeking process, become familiar with the resources available to you for grant seeking, and tour the TCCL Foundation Center Collection. Basic computer and Internet search skills are needed for this workshop.
